INNOVATIONS AND BEST PRACTICES
Since the very inception of the college in June 1970, the college has been enjoying the campus atmosphere full of greenery. The college is situated at the bank of Terana River with 05 acres of land. Yet it has maintained greater greenery on the campus. There are various types of trees such as coconuts, lemons, lawns and Horticulture gardens.
Suitable efforts are taken for Energy conservation, Use of renewable energy, Water harvesting, Efforts for Carbon neutrality, Plantation, Hazardous waste management and e-waste management etc.
The NSS department of the college is very active in offering social services. Through it various projects like tree plantation, blood donation etc are conducted.
The college has implemented innovative concepts like MDM Research Academy, Edu-fair, Mid-Day meal, Use of Audio aids in teaching, need based short term courses, MDM Darpan & Facebook, Celebration of birthday etc.
SWOC ANALYSIS
In order to evaluate the institution on the basis of its Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges the following aspects are identified:
Strengths:
The college proudly states the following as significant aspects of the strength of the institution which can be utilized for its further development.
- The faculty members are fully qualified, devoted, dedicated in the task of the development of the College.
- Good learning Environment
- Tradition of democratic and transperant governance
- The surrounding of the College is nature friendly on the bank of river Terna.
- The number of girls students in larger than boy students
- So many Ex. students are working in private & Government Sector as well as self employed.
- The institute also provides to the students local need based courses such as vermin culture, horticulture, nursery etc.
- The institute also provides Mid-day meal to the students of SC/ST/OBC& Minorities.
- Though Remedial Coaching Classes, Entry in Services, Career and Counseling Cell. The Institute has created awareness among the students, May of them employed in private and Government sector. The Institute also has created awareness to apply modern & scientific way of farming as result may of the students have earned the name as commercial farmers.
- The Institute also run the short terms courses and career oriented programmes such as Communication Skills., Tally, Jewelry making etc. These courses not only provide to the students, it also provides weaker section of the society with the number of beneficiaries.
Weakness:
Being a rural area college, we do face some constrains. The following weaknesses need to be urgently attended and overcome:
- Syllabus is provided by the university it does not challenge to local needs, national & Internationals needs.
- Lack of in house expert and technical support services.
- Location of college is in an industrially backward area as result institution-industry tie up is very poor.
- Lack of Professional outlook among the students and parents
- One of the major problems is the students from the Karnataka region is facing problem in getting admissions.HSC board of Karnataka states doesnt give migration certificate.
- Transport facility is in sufficient. The Karnataka state transport co-operation does not give concession to the students traveling in Maharashtra.
- The Karnataka state enforced the students to study in kannad medium instead of Marathi .The state Government of Maharashtra provides Scholarship to SC/ST/OBC students. The state Government of Karnataka state provides Scholarship only SC/ST students.
- The College building is construeted in 1970.It is 45 years old. It is also in sufficient. The College badly needs well equipped class rooms, auditorium, separate Toilet and rooms for the students.
- Lack of Infrastructue facility and additional funds for maintenance.
Opportunities:
The college has run Arts, Commerce & Computer Science faculties, we find following opportunities for further development of the college.
- The students learning in this institute have job opportunities in local market, private and Government sector, banking etc. MPSC, UPSC, BPO, CALL Center, Policee, Militry and Paramilitry forces etc.
- To develop and prepare local need based courses and students prepared for self employment.
Challenges:
Following challenges are crucial before the college which needs rigorous planning, strong will and desire for implementation so as to transform them in opportunities for the sustainable development of institution.
- To create new infrastructure to replace old one this may be outdated in near future.
- To inculcate professional outlook among the students and develop vocational competencies among them
- Aurad Shahajani is remote place not connected by good conditioned road, railways and Air. It is also away from industrials area. If the modern facilities are not provided to the institute the student may lay behind the age. They badly need vocational education with traditional degrees.
- To utilize the source of alumni for creation of new infrastructure.
On the basis of the above SWOC analysis, it can be visualized that there are certain weaknesses which need to overcome in near future. Some of them are situational, procedural and some are financial. The solutions are not impossible but require rigorous implementation, eliciting the support of the top management and alumni. So far as the challenges are concerned, they can be converted into opportunities with an appropriate planning and utilizing the aspects of strengths. There are certain opportunities which can be utilized for the further development.. The NAAC Peer Team’s visit and suggestions can be of immense importance in this regard.
